<image:caption>When we laser scan historic structures like this 98-year-old building, we give our client better documentation than the original architect could ever imagine. Slicing multiple sections at any location in any direction is just one ability our clients have. Even objects we didn't scan (like slab and wall thicknesses) can be measured due to their negative space in the scan data. Flat floors are not flat. Symmetrical features are not symmetrical. Your eyes forgive a lot of things. Our clients hire us to find the truth early instead of the truth finding them later. <image:title>Historic Preservation - Baltimore, Maryland</image:title>
<image:caption>The old cornerstone on this former ice factory simply reads "1905." That's when the American Ice Company built their Plant No. 2 to serve the Baltimore market. Consumer demand was so high, they added a 75' (22.8m) tall red brick storage facility 14 years later. But by the 1950s, electric air conditioning had replaced ice cooling and many of these plants were repurposed or abandoned. Fast forwarding many decades later, our laser scanners documented the relic's 62,000 ft² of split-levels, mezzanines, riveted iron beams, stairwells, rooftop monitors, ramps, nooks and crannies. We then drafted a full set of as-built plans for our clients to work their adaptive reuse magic. The new project is called Lalibela and their plan is to design a home for the production of film, television, technology, culture and community in the heart of Baltimore City.</image:caption>

It's the three-story portion at the south end of the industrial plant originally built in 1905. According to the Historic-Structures.com website, this area "featured the engine room on the first floor and filters on the second floor, third floor and roof. The Sanborn map indicates elevator motors at the southern end where equipment for hoisting large blocks of ice was likely to be located."</image:caption>
